Urgent Message from the Acting-President

2023-10-17

GLL is in critical need of volunteers to keep our programs running.

Dear GLL Families,

If your child has been part of Glebe Little League (GLL), then you know the amazing contribution that GLL makes to young players towards both their skill and social development.  For that we have to thank not just the coaches, but the volunteers who work behind the scenes to register players, organize fields, schedule games, liaise with other leagues and the City, order equipment and uniforms, maintain the website, pay the bills, and a myriad of other duties.

GLL is an organization run entirely by volunteers.  For the last few years, a handful of dedicated individuals have worked tireless hours to ensure GLL programs remain in operation.  With several of those key volunteers moving on in November, GLL will be facing a shortage of help to fulfil critical roles.

Should the vacant positions remain unfilled, GLL may need to cancel one, multiple, or all of its programs which include:

  • Winter Skills
  • Spring Ball
  • Summer Ball
  • Fall Ball
  • Girls Baseball

Help us make sure that doesn't happen to Canada's oldest little league by putting your name forward to help out.  Your talents, skills, knowledge, and creativity could really make a difference.

But be assured, this isn’t all about work! By putting your name forward, you’ll be joining a small, but mighty team that listens to and respects its members, welcomes serious thought and crazy ideas, and definitely enjoys the social aspect of being part of a team - all while ensuring kids have the opportunity to be part of the game.

Right now we are in critical and immediate need of the following positions:

  • Registrar - sets up and manages online registration which also entails producing stats and uploading GLL rosters onto Little League Canada.
  • Communications, marketing and public relations officer - drafts and disseminates notices and information to families on programs, events, registration deadlines, etc., promotes the interest of the league and coordinates efforts to make the league visible in the community year round
  • Program Management Support - We need individuals to assist in setting up and maintaining the new Monday.com site which will soon become the backbone for GLL operations, planning and management. If you have project management experience or simply have natural organizational skills, this may be a good fit for you.

Other positions are also available, some of which are positions on the Executive as Board Members:

  • VP Ops
  • Website maintenance
  • Safety officer
  • Player agent
  • Apparel manager
  • League photographer/videographer

GLL will offer full training/guidance for all the above positions to get you comfortable in the role. Previous officers have also offered to continue to mentor, should you need it. So please consider putting your name forward to join and sustain this wonderful organization.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss ways that you can help out, feel free to reach out to me (David Pierce) or to Geneviève Bourgeois (VP Admin).

To get a look at what we do as a Board, join us by Zoom at the AGM on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7:00pm . The link will be sent in a separate email and posted on glebelittleleague.ca.

Sincerely,
David Pierce, Acting-President
