The Summer baseball program builds on the Spring program, providing an opportunity to play in July and August. The program is open to all of our Spring players.
MINOR, MAJOR, JUNIOR, SENIOR
The deadline to register for MINOR and MAJOR A team is prior to the first evaluation session.
The deadline to register for MINOR and MAJOR B teams is Sunday June 19.
We encourage ALL players to register ASAP and not wait until the deadline.
In these divisions Glebe plays in the Ottawa Summer Interlock league with teams from other Ottawa area Little Leagues in District 6 (Carleton Russell, Prescott Russell, South Ottawa, Orleans) and District 2 (Ottawa West, East Nepean, Kanata).
Each age division will typically form either 1-2 summer teams, however if there is enough interest we will attempt to field enough teams to meet the interest. There will be one Canadian “A” team per division that will participate in the district Little League World Series playdowns and summer "A" level interlock schedule. The remaining teams will be National "B" teams that participate in the summer interlock "B" schedule. All teams generally will have one home and one away game per week.
Registration is open now (online) and full payment is requested PRIOR to tryout sessions. Players may not register at the tryout sessions. Refunds will be available to players who for whatever reason decide to withdraw from summer play prior to or during the tryout process, and for up to 3 days after notification of tryout results.
Your child will be in the same age category for summer as they were for spring: ie: minor in spring = minor in summer. If there are more players interested than can be accommodated in Glebe, we will refer players to other leagues that have space available. Every effort will be made to place all players who wish to play summer ball on a team. While we try to include as many players as possible, it can be necessary to release players. Usually this will be due to numbers, for example 17 registrants which is too many for one team but not enough for two.
Glebe will field All Star (A) teams at the Junior, Major and Minor levels.
All Star Teams are selected after a tryout process to be held in June. The All Star Teams represent our league in the World Wide Little League Tournament which starts with the District 6 playdowns and continues on to Provincial, Canadian and World Series Championships for the successful teams. Players on this team need to be available and committed to many practices in preparation for district competition and are expected to be available for all district games.
In order to be eligible for selection to an All Star team, players must have played in 60% or more of the regular season scheduled games in that same division of play (not including playoffs). They must also meet residency requirements.
“A” teams will also participate in the Summer Canadian Interlock A Baseball League with other All Star Teams in the Ottawa Area. The summer league has 2 games per week, one home and one away plus tournaments on some weekends.
B teams are made up of players who want to play summer baseball but don’t want the extra commitment required by the All Star Team. Our Summer 'B' teams play 2 games per week, one home and one away, with other teams from across Ottawa. The teams will also participate in weekend tournaments should they want to. Summer ball provides ongoing development for players, and therefore practices are important and to be anticipated regularly although not necessarily every week.
Players will attend an evaluation session in mid June details of which will be communicated to registrants. Players who self select into B do not attend the A team tryouts. If they love the game and have developed some basic degree of competency, then they will thrive in Summer ball. Players are there to increase their skill and have fun.
Minor B program - scheduling changes
The minor spring program has increased significantly in numbers, and we anticipate more interest in the summer program - which will be great! Based on feedback from last year's participants we are looking to cut down on the amount of travel the B teams face. Usually we interlock with District 6 and District 2 so this means 6 away games which can be anywhere from Casselman to Kanata. We plan to limit the interlock schedule to D6 teams which would exclude travel to D2 teams in East Nepean, Kanata and Ottawa West. Our away games would be in Orleans, South Ottawa - and possibly Rockland and/or Casselman if they field teams.
Decisions are made at the district level and will be determined in early June as the various leagues have an idea of registration numbers and the preferences of their participants.
